OUR STORY

G for Girls (GGI) is a Community Based Organisation (CBO) operating in Vanga ward, Lunga Lunga sub-county of Kwale kenya in the Kenya-Tanzania border.

Our journey began with a simple yet profound belief: every girl deserves the chance to learn, grow, and succeed. Recognizing the myriad barriers girls in our community face in accessing education, we set out to make a difference—one girl at a time. From humble beginnings, our initiative has grown into a robust network of supporters, volunteers, and advocates, all united in the mission to transform lives through education.

OUR WHY

Co-Founder Ilse Kithembe

In my life, I have always been burdened by the dreams of older women who share stories of how they wanted to go to school, but culture and other circumstances didn’t allow them to. I often wonder what would have happened to them if they were allowed to follow their dreams. These women are close to me, and as a young girl who always had a deep yearning for learning, I carry their dreams in my heart. That’s why I founded the G for Girls Initiative because I wanted to see more girls attain education and pursue their dreams. This is also why my favorite affirmation is from Farida D. Arthur: “To all the women whose blood swims in me, I won’t let you drown.”
